What is an Otaku?

Otaku is a proud label that has been around that can make people either proud, or to some can also be just a secret kept to their selves. Otaku by definition means that an individual is with passion has an obsessive interest in something. The proper usage of the word will be to put the word Otaku in reference to an individual's interest. For instance, if a boy is passionately obsessed to Manga, you can refer to him as Manga Otaku, as well as a girl who is an Anime fanatic, which then can be termed as Anime Otaku. Basically, the term Otaku can mean various terms - from anime characters to the military forces.

The most popular sorts of otaku in the Japanese regions and all over the world can be the following: anime otaku, then the Manga otaku, pasokon otaku, gemu otaku, wota, and then lastly, gunji otaku. To further understand each of these mentioned otakus, we will define them one by one.

The Anime Otaku

An Anime Otaku is a person who in actuality lives, breathes, and eats anime or the famous cartoon characters that originated in Japan. They do this just to create the anime image they are so fond of. Most of these anime otakus also participate in Cos-plays or costume plays. When asked about their favorite anime cartoon series, they can recall every single scene from every episode that is because they've watched it many times.

The Manga Otaku

Most often than not, anime otakus are at the same time manga otakus. This is because animes are typically derived from the manga collections or Japanese magazine or comic cartoon collections. A manga otaku is a person who is very fond of reading manga comic books. They fall in line in bookstores just to wait for the release of their favorite Japanese comic book. Most of the manga fans are also fond of drawing anime images from their manga collection of comics.

The Pasokon Otaku

A Pasokon otaku is a person who is extremely obsessed with their computers - whether personal computer, laptop, or notebook. These pasokon otaku are technology geeks but can also be technology gurus at the same time. They are also in the dire need to possess the latest gizmos or gadgets for their computer. They can also be extremely knowledgeable when it comes to techie stuff like Microsoft, down to web 2.0, to creating their own Java games. Most of these pasokon otakus have defective eyesight due to eyestrain in always facing the computer monitor.

The Gemu Otaku

A Gemu otaku is a person, usually but not exclusively a boy, whose extreme addiction is more in to computer video games that can fall in any genre. Most often than not, these gemu otaku loves playing role playing games like Ragnarok, MMORPG or by definition massively multiplayer on line games, action-filled computer games, shooting computer video games, platform computer games, sports computer video games, dance revolution games, guitar hero games for Xbox, to simple web-based games that can be played on Facebook. Think of all the games found in the internet, and they most probably know it. They can spend literally hours to days playing in front of the computer, whether along at home, or outside together with their fellow Gemu Otakus in the internet cafes.

The Wota Otaku

Wotan otakus are those people who are obsessively idolizing celebrities like singers, actors, dancers and any other famous personalities. These are usually girls who are crazy over pop icons, pop girls, boy bands, rock bands, artists, singers and more.

The Gunji Otaku

A gunji otaku is a person who has an obsession to military gadgets like guns, airplanes, helicopters, armours, and tanks. They can be fond of collecting the military stuffs and end up with a lot of military-related collections.
