How to Make a Popover

By

A popover is a delicious pastry to enjoy with the whole family or friends over a good chit-chat or picnic time. What is more is that popovers are generally just easy to make and can be made out of just at least 5 main ingredients. According to historical records, the recipe for a popover was first included in a cookbook way back in 1876 in Practical Cooking written by M. N. Henderson.

Popovers were called popovers because of the pops or batters that appear on top of the muffin tin or custard cups while they are on the process of baking. Today, there are different variations of the original popover recipe. In the USA, there are some who bakes a popover with a pumpkin puree as a replacement for flour and then adding spices like allspice and nutmeg. While the original popover is kind of meaty or sometimes contains herbs, the usual popover today is a far cry. Today’s versions of a popover are buttery in taste and are served for breakfast or snack or as a sort of dessert after a heavy lunch or dinner. Well, the modern type of a popover is what we are going to make today. So, get your pencils and list down the following materials that you will need:

·         3 large eggs at room temperature

·         1 ¼ cups whole milk

·         1 ¼ cups flour

·         ¼ cp tsp table salt

·         1 tbsp melted butter

·         Butter for greasing

Instructions:

Step 1: Preheat oven at 450 degrees F.

Step 2: Grease the muffin tins or custard cups generously.

Step 3: Mix the flour, eggs, milk, butter, and salt. Beat the eggs in a small bowl using an egg beater or a whisker until it is foamy. Do not over beat the eggs. Add milk and then mix it well. Then put in the flour, the salt, and then the butter to the mixture. Mix well. For easier mixing, you can use a blender. Just put all the ingredients required for the mixture in the blender then blend well.

Step 3: Warm up your pan. Place the greased cups or tins in your pan. Make sure that you have greased them all generously so that the result will be of great quality and taste. Place the pan in the preheated oven for 2 to 3 minutes to warm it up. Once it is warm, get it out so that you can fill it with the mixture.

Step 4: Bake. Fill each container (tin or cup) with the mixture until it is half-full. Once all the containers are properly filled with the popover batter, place the pan in the oven again. Bake it for 20 minutes then continue baking it in a lower temperature at about 320 degrees for about 15 minutes.

Step 5: Serve. Get the pan out of the oven and then let it cool a bit before popping all the popovers and placing them on a serving platter. Now you are ready to eat some delicious stuff for breakfast.
