How to Make Spicy Boiled Peanuts
By Soramelo
Spicy boiled peanuts are not particularly difficult to make. In fact, making them is practically one of the easiest recipes to do. Boiled peanuts are certainly a delicacy to the taste buds and are quite good for keeping your mouth busy. Spicy boiled peanuts is also a very good alternative for popcorns and other unhealthy snacks when watching a movie or just jamming around with your friends. You can put them in a large bowl and eat it while having fun with your friends or just with yourself. Plus, you would not need any special equipment to do this task. It will only require you a large kettle or even a simple pot with lid will do.
But before you start cooking, get the items listed here first:
· Large kettle or a pot with lid
· Peanuts (raw) 4 lbs
· Peppers Kosher Salt (or any other salt)
· Cajun Spice Jalapeno
· Hat Sauce (Louisiana style red hot sauce)
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the ingredients. This is the first step in every cooking procedure. Of course, you need to clean all your ingredients and equipments thoroughly. Wash the large kettle well and then rinse the peanuts. The peanuts must still be raw and shelled. Rinse the peanuts in cold water. Put them in a bowl and fill it with water. Rinse the peanuts and wash them well. You may have to do this several times because shelled raw peanuts can be extremely dirty and would have traces of soil or earth on them. You do not want your cooking to be spoiled by soil, do you?
Step 2: Remove the damaged peanuts. Spread the peanuts on a clean, plain surface and sort it out. Remove empty shells and damaged peanuts.
Step 3: Get the pot or kettle and place it in the stove. Fill it with 6 quarts of water (optional: you can also make it 5 quarts of water). Once done, add 6 tbsp of Kosher Salt of a regular table salt and then followed by other spices that you want to add. Lastly, add the peanuts to the pot. Make sure that you add them slowly for there is a tendency that the pot will overflow when too many peanuts are placed.
Step 4: Make the recipe spicy. To do this, add 2 tbsp of Cajun Spice Jalapeno. After that, add into the mixture the contents of a small can of Jalapeno peppers. Lastly, pour in at least half a cup of the hot sauce to the mixture. You can reduce or increase the amount as you like.
Step 5: Put the oven to fast boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to only simmer. Cover the pot or kettle with the lid and let it cook for about 2 hours. You will know when it is cooked when the peanuts are soft and quite mushy when you touch them. Make sure to check the water level from time-to-time. Do not let it go to a level that is too low for the peanuts will burn.
Step 6: When they are cooked, turn off the heat and let the peanuts sit for 30 minutes to fully absorb the flavor.
Step 7: Enjoy your spicy boiled peanuts!
