This drink usually taken as cold and this is also a good remedy if someone is thirsty. The making of Horchata originated from the tiger nut during the Muslim years at the Valencia.
The Horchata refers into a huge group of drinks or beverages that is made with nuts or grains, like tiger nuts, almonds or sesame seeds. The Mexican Horchata is a type of drink or beverages whose status reaches beyond the Mexico's borders; this is most commonly made with rice. The Mexican Horchata is parallel to rice milk but creamier, and this is also sweetened by the use of spiced and sugar with cinnamon. To make Horchata, you will need:
- milk
- uncooked white long-grain rice
- white sugar
- water
- almond flavoring or ground cinnamon
- vanilla extract
Here’s how to make it:
- You need to pour the rice and water to a bowl that is large enough. Then, let it soak the rice overnight in the water.
- Place the water and rice mixture to the blender, then add the cinnamon. Blend them for 3 min, or when it appears smooth.

After that, blend the almonds with a mixture of cold water, until it becomes milk-like in appearance. Strain through a fine sieve or cheesecloth. Then add the cold water.
Mix rice water and the almond milk jointly. Refrigerate then in order to meld the flavors.
Serve it over an ice or a hot with dash of cinnamon that are ground on the top.
