How to Decorate Birthday Cake with Fruits

By

Decorating a birthday cake has always been a challenge for many people, especially regular housewives. This is because of the fact that you do not want to make the birthday cake too covered with decorations that it looks like a circus while at the same time you would not want to look bare and plain and boring. You also would not want to decorate the cake with items that may not match the theme of the party. Luckily, there is one cake decoration item that is timeless and is proven to be good to use in all occasions. Guess what it is? Fruits.

However, if you would like to use fruits, you might be careful on the type of fruits that you will place on the cake. You see, there are certain fruits that just are not meant to be together. Sour fruits usually should not be put together with acidic fruits for they will not neutralize or cancel the sourness and the acid level of each other; in fact, they tend to increase their levels. But, you do not have to stress out yourselves in thinking for a delicious combination and how to decorate a cake with fruits properly because you will learn how in this simple cake decorating guide.

First, you need to get the fruit selection of your choice. You can use strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cherries, and blackberries. The cherries must be pitted first. The larger fruits must be halved. Larger fruits that are meant are strawberries and raspberries. This is just to make sure that your cake design would be sort of even and not look like it was just put up by an amateur one.

If you have several layers of cake, start on the most bottom layer first and then climb your way to the top. You can decide on the design that you want and how you want to arrange the fruits. However, it is better to arrange the fruits around the edge of each layer. Press each fruit piece slightly and gently into the frosting to make sure it really sticks to the cake. Make sure not to squeeze the fruits and not break them or anything so that their juice would not seep through the cake. This is a potential threat to the cake’s taste if ever.

Put the remaining fruit piece on top of the top layer of the cake. Pile them and just make sure that they are properly piled so no fruit comes off. Plus, make sure that the height is no more than 5 inches to avoid the pile rolling off of the cake. If there are still remaining pieces of fruits, you may scatter them around the ledges of each cake layer.

You see, decorating a cake with fruits is just easy. However, you just need to be very gently when decorating a cake. You do not want to ruin the design or taste of the cake by applying to much force when decorating, now would you?
