Cupcake Joys for your Boys!

Boys would always be boys. And for young boys, their birthdays are one of those things they always expect to boast to their playmates. And those birthday celebrations do not only include hardcore big boy designs or rough-rider toys; the boy celebrant always expect his cupcakes (yes, you heard it right, it’s modern day cupcakes for today) to be as bomber as to his playmates’ eyes and to their mouth as well.

You do not want to end up having pink or fairy-decorated cupcakes for this celebration, do you? Here are some simple cupcake decorations that would make you the best superhero ever to serve those cupcakes for his birthday.

UP Cakes

Remember the house flown by lots of balloons from the Disney Pixar movie UP? Well, fly it to your home with this very simple UP cupcake recipe!

What you Need:

  • Cupcakes
  • Bright-colored frosting (preferably balloon colors)
  • Ribbons
  • A template of a house

What to Do:

First, you need to bake the cupcakes according to package directions. While cooling the cupcakes in the racks, you could start preparing your colored frostings in separate icing bags. You could also have your own colored frostings by having a plain white frosting with different food colorings (that is a very good alternative and you could have color toning with that).

Next, tape ribbon at the bottom of each cupcake (a length of ribbon per cupcake) and tie the loose ends together. With the ribbons’ end tied together, you could attach your paper model of the house.

Spread and smooth the frosting at the top of each cupcake for the last step. Make sure no two adjacent cupcakes have the same color. (Tip: You could add a chocolate surprise for each cupcake by simply putting chocolate kisses inside it!)

Basket Hoops Cupcakes

The boys are sure to take a time-out from the celebration and feast over these basketball-inspired cupcake scorers!

What you Need:

  • Mini white cupcakes (preferable one inch tall)
  • Sugar cookies (preferable three diameters)
  • Mini basketball chocolates
  • White frosting
  • Orange decorator’s gel

What to Do:

For the basket, level the cupcake top to the wrapper’s edges. Frost and smooth the cupcake and apply decorator’s gel around the edge. Cut the cookies into half, frost them and add details using decorator’s gel. The cookies would serve as the backboard. Paste the backboard by applying frosting to the proper place and gently pressing the decorated cookie.

Finally, paste chocolate basketballs at the desired surface of your basket. Let the cupcakes settle for half an hour before they are served.

Penguin Cupcakes

Tap your feet as your boys sway with these chocolatey cute penguin cupcake treats!

What you Need:

  • Vanilla cupcakes
  • Three (3) cups of vanilla frosting
  • Chocolate cookies
  • Dried apricots (cut into triangles)
  • Brown M&M’s minis

What to Do:

Prepare the vanilla cupcakes according to the package directions. But if you have your own signature style of cupcake preparation, you may do so. Three (3) cups of vanilla frosting are used to have spare frosting in pasting other decoration elements.

Trim flat the top of the cupcakes to level the cupcake cover. Frost and smooth the top of the cupcake. Cut the chocolate cookies into half. Place one-half cookie at the top of the cupcake, with the arc edge of the cookie at the arc edge of the cupcake. Use the vanilla frosting to glue the cookie. That would serve as the head of the penguin.

Put two pieces of cookie-half, and place them below the head, forming a slight letter ‘V’ for its flippers. Glue the flippers using the frosting. Place two dried apricots at the gap of the flippers, these would serve as the head and glue another one at the middle-low part of the head for the beak. Finally, create two dots of frosting for the penguin’s eyes and attach the M&M’s minis.

Apple Cupcake

An apple cupcake a party makes the whole crowd stay!

What you Need:

  • Cupcakes
  • Red frosting
  • Mini pretzel stick
  • Melted chocolate
  • Green gumdrop leaf
  • Gummy worms

What to Do:

This is a very simple cupcake decoration. First, you need to prepare the cupcakes according to package directions. Cool the cupcakes and ice-smooth them with the red frosting. There goes your fruit.

For the stem, simply dip the pretzel stick to the melted chocolate and chill it hard before injecting in the top of the cupcake. Attach the gumdrop leaf at the side of the stem, or just have your own green frosting and use a leaf tip.

If you want to have it a little bit of twist, you could slice a portion of the cake and insert some gummy worms into it.

Very simple, yet very appealing to your boy’s eyes! These designs are an advantage since you need no complicated steps or a long list of ingredients to prepare these treats! So why go for tedious robot or car designs when you could have these super cute yet super yummy cupcake decorations to fulfill your boy’s I’ll-boast-this-to-my-playmates birthday!
